Rajwada Palace
Built by the Holkar dynasty in the 18th century, Rajwada is a seven-storey historical palace located in the city centre. Its unique mix of Maratha, Mughal, and French architecture reflects the royal lifestyle of the Holkars. The front of the palace is made of stone, while the back is made of wood, which makes it architecturally important.
Lal Bagh Palace
This palace was built by Maharaja Shivaji Rao Holkar and took over 30 years to complete. It was used for hosting royal guests and foreign dignitaries. The entrance gates are a replica of those at Buckingham Palace, made in England and shipped to India. The interiors still preserve Italian marble, chandeliers, and royal furniture.
Khajrana Ganesh Temple
Originally built by Rani Ahilyabai Holkar, this temple is one of the most visited religious places in Indore. Devotees believe that all wishes are fulfilled here. The idol of Lord Ganesha is made from a unique mixture of limestone, jaggery, and mud, and is more than 8 feet tall.
Sarafa Bazaar (Night Street Food Market)
This jewelry market turns into a food street after 8 PM. It is known for traditional Indori snacks like poha-jalebi, bhutte ka kees, and garadu. It is one of the only places in India where a full food bazaar runs at night, attracting locals and tourists equally.
Chhappan Dukaan
Literally meaning “56 shops”, this area is popular for its vegetarian street food. Most shops here have been run by families for over two generations. Items like Johnny Hot Dog, Shikanji, and Indori samosa have become iconic.
Kanch Mandir
A Jain temple entirely covered in glass and mirrors, built by Sir Seth Hukumchand Jain in the early 20th century. The interiors reflect Jain philosophy through intricate mirror work and glass mosaics. It’s not just a religious site but also a rare example of glass architecture in India.
