Bandhavgarh National Park
Bandhavgarh National Park and Tiger Reserve lies in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, in the Vindhya hills. It is famous for tigers: the 2022 count found about 135 tigers here, one of the highest tiger densities in India. An old fort sits on the hill at its centre, and its forests also hold leopards, sloth bears, gaur and wild dogs. Jabalpur is about four to five hours away. Our Bandhavgarh tour packages include your stay, jeep safari and pick-up from Jabalpur, and most include meals at the resort, so you only have to come and enjoy the jungle.

Land packages start at Bandhavgarh, for guests who reach the park on their own. Every package can be changed to fit your dates, group size and budget.
Bandhavgarh has three core zones. Each safari ticket is for one zone only, so book the zone first and the stay near it.

Tala and Magadhi start from Tala village, where most resorts are. Khitauli has its own gate on the other side.
Morning safariStarts at sunrise, about four to five hours.
Afternoon safariStarts mid-afternoon, ends at sunset.
Exact times change with the season. We share the reporting time for your gate with your booking.
The park is closed:
- Every Wednesday afternoon (core zones)
- On Holi
- Core zones close for the monsoon from 1 July and reopen in October. Ask us which buffer zones are open in that time.
Safari tickets are sold by the MP Forest Department on its MPOnline portal. Booking opens about four months ahead, and only a fixed number of jeeps can enter each zone in each shift.
- Book 45 to 60 days early. Book even earlier for Diwali, Christmas, New Year and summer holidays.
- Tala sells out first. Magadhi and Khitauli are good second choices.
- Carry the same ID card you used for booking. It is checked at the gate.

Jeep (Gypsy) safariOpen 4x4 for up to six guests, with driver and forest guide. Quieter and better for photos. Our packages include a shared jeep; a private jeep is on request.
Canter safariBigger open bus run by the Forest Department, only in Magadhi and Khitauli. Costs less but is more crowded.
Night safari runs in some buffer zones. Ask us if it is open for your dates.

Bandhavgarh is best known for the tiger. The 2022 count found about 135 tigers in the reserve.
You can also see leopard, sloth bear, wild dog (dhole), gaur (Indian bison), sambar, chital and wild boar. Gaur were brought back here from Kanha in 2012, and a herd of wild elephants has lived in the park since 2018. Bird lovers can spot many birds, including the crested serpent eagle and peafowl.
Sightings are never guaranteed in a forest, but more safaris and a good guide give you a better chance.
By airJabalpur is the nearest airport, about 165 km and four to five hours by road. Khajuraho is about five hours.
By trainUmaria station is about 35 km away. Katni is about 100 km, and Jabalpur has the most trains.
By roadGood roads link Tala village to Jabalpur, Katni, Umaria and Kanha.

- Wear neutral colours like khaki, brown, olive or beige. Avoid bright colours and white.
- In winter, carry a jacket, cap and gloves, because mornings in an open jeep are very cold.
- In summer, carry a cap, sunglasses, sunscreen and water.
- Carry your ID card. Plastic is not allowed inside the park.
- Stay inside the jeep, keep your voice low and do not feed the animals.
- Binoculars and a camera with a zoom lens make the safari much better.

Dear Akshayji..... it was my and my wife's first experience to travel within India in an organized tour by a travel agent. During jungle safari we were also fortunate to see three tigers in sanctuaries. From Khajuraho we reached Amarkantak in time to have Narmada arati. Ma blessed us. In Jabalpur we had one night stay in Vrudavan Gopala resort adjoing which Ma Narmada changes its avatar into a water fall. It was very amazing sight to see water gushing through marble stone vally and we did enjoy it. It was worth visiting there. To be precise 'it was an iceing on the cake'. We do appreciate your presence during visit to Lord Shiva statue. You kindness to provide us special lunch on last day and even see us off at Jabalpur station was worth noting. Overall we had a very pleasant trip and certainly we would prefer to use your services for future trips.
