QUICK ANSWER

The 8 best places to visit in Pench National Park

Pench National Park lies in the Satpura hills of Seoni and Chhindwara districts of Madhya Pradesh, on the border with Maharashtra, and takes its name from the Pench River that runs through it. Its best places are forest areas, open grassland and water: Turia, Karmajhiri and Jamtara, the Alikatta grasslands, the Pench River, the Rukhad buffer, Kohka Lake and Sillari on the Maharashtra side.

Each gate has its own permit, so choose the gate first and book your stay near it. Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra permits are separate. See our Pench tour packages or book a Pench safari.

Pench safari gates
and permits.

Pench stretches across Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Start with your gate and permit, then connect your stay, transfers and the places you want to enjoy.

TURIA · KARMAJHIRI · JAMTARA

Match your stay to your entry.

These are different MP safari approaches. Rukhad is a separate buffer experience. Confirm the gate, session and allowed circuit on your booking.

Go by the live calendar. Confirm seasonal access and session availability for your travel dates.

Keep the plan realistic. A safari follows its assigned route; every place is not included in one permit.

Ask for the full cost. Permit, vehicle, guide, transfers, stay and cancellation terms should be clear.

    About this spot ↓

Plan around this forest-side approach if your permit names Karmajhiri. It is also a starting area for authorised guided nature trails outside the core safari experience.

03 / LEAVE ROOM FOR THE UNEXPECTED

Pench itinerary:
make it a stay, not a checklist.

Start with the sessions you can book. Add one unhurried outing, rather than trying to cross every gate in a day.

  1. 01

    Arrive & settle.

Stay near the gate on your permit. Keep the first afternoon flexible and confirm your reporting details.

  2. 02

    Give the forest time.

Take your booked safari. Leave the choice of permitted circuit to the reserve and enjoy what the day offers.

  3. 03

    A gentler finish.

Add a separately confirmed nearby stop only if your departure timing and transfer allow it.

04 / PLAN WITH BANJARI MP TOURS

Plan your Pench trip.
Your dates, your pace.

Tell us your arrival point and preferred forest side. Ask for a clear plan covering permits, a stay near your gate and any separate outings.

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS

Pench National Park FAQs

What are the best places to visit in Pench National Park?

The best places to visit in Pench National Park are the Turia, Karmajhiri and Jamtara forest areas, the Alikatta grasslands, the Pench River and Chindimatta, the Rukhad buffer forest, Kohka Lake and, on the Maharashtra side, Sillari. Your gate and permit decide which forest you see on a safari, so pick the gate first.

How do I reach Pench National Park?

Nagpur is the closest big city: Turia gate is about 85 km away by road, via Khawasa. From Jabalpur it is about 195 km to Karmajhiri gate and about 215 km to Turia. Seoni is about 50 km from Karmajhiri, and Chhindwara about 59 to 80 km from Jamtara.

Is Pench National Park the Jungle Book forest?

Pench is one of the forests believed to have inspired Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book, whose wolf pack lives in the Seeonee (Seoni) hills. The park was also filmed for the BBC series Tiger: Spy in the Jungle. Today you see the same mix of teak forest, open meadows and the Pench River on a safari.

How many days are enough for Pench National Park?

One night is enough for one or two safaris from a single gate. Two nights let you take two or three safaris, rest in the afternoon and add one nearby outing such as Kohka Lake or a buffer drive in Rukhad.

When is Pench National Park closed?

The core zones of the Madhya Pradesh side are closed from 1 July to 30 September and open from 1 October to 15 June. Check the MPOnline booking calendar for your exact dates and sessions.

Which places should I prioritise on a first visit?

Start with a safari from the gate on your permit. Alikatta and the river landscape depend on the assigned circuit. Add a separate nearby or buffer outing only when time and current access allow.

Are Turia, Karmajhiri and Jamtara the same entry?

No. Treat each reporting gate and its transfer as a separate planning choice. Match your accommodation to the gate that is actually booked.

Can one MP permit be used for Sillari?

No. Sillari is on the Maharashtra side. Confirm separate gate and booking arrangements before making the journey.

Can we get out and walk during a safari?

Follow the guide and current reserve rules. An authorised guided nature trail outside the core is a separate experience; the presence of a place in this guide is not permission to walk there.

Is a tiger sighting or a boat ride guaranteed?

No. Wildlife is free-ranging, and boating or access to specific points must be checked separately. The moving animals in this virtual scene are illustrations.

Is the side-view scene actual camera footage?

The forest-road guide and optional sideways camera use Pench photographs, generated scenery and wildlife. Kohka has a labelled waterside illustration. They are visual journeys, not recordings of a continuous real safari route or a live feed.

Photographs, artwork & planning references ↗

Documentary photographs are resized as responsive WebP without upscaling. Gate-specific habitat references are labelled, and the full photograph can be opened from its card. Photographers do not endorse this guide.

The cinematic woodland, waterside, foreground foliage and animated wildlife are generated artwork. Kohka Lake uses an explicitly labelled waterside illustration. The visual journey does not reproduce actual distances, routes or sighting probabilities.
