Diwali Tour Packages in Madhya Pradesh for Families, Couples and Groups

9 min read By Banjari MP Tours Private Limited

The best Diwali tour packages Madhya Pradesh has to offer are short 2 to 5 night trips to Pachmarhi, Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Ujjain–Omkareshwar and Khajuraho. Pachmarhi is about 50 km (around 1.5 hours) from Pipariya station, Kanha's Khatia gate is about 160–170 km (3.5–4 hours) from Jabalpur, and Omkareshwar is about 77–80 km (around 2 hours) from Indore. Our 2 night Pachmarhi package from Pipariya starts from ₹7,100 per person.

Book 3 to 4 weeks before the festival if you can. Jungle stays and hill hotels fill up fast in Diwali week, and safari permits open 120 days in advance.

Diwali falls on Kartik Amavasya, the new moon of the Kartik month, usually in October or November. The festival week runs from Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj. Check this year's date before booking. We confirm it for you when we send your plan.

Why is Madhya Pradesh good for a Diwali holiday?

Diwali comes just after the monsoon, so the weather turns pleasant. Days are warm and dry, and nights are cool. In Pachmarhi, early November nights often fall to around 12–15°C, as per IMD readings reported in the press, so carry a light jacket.

The tiger reserves are back in action too. The core zones of Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Pench, Satpura and Panna close in the monsoon months and reopen in October. So Diwali falls in the first fresh weeks of the safari season, when the forest is green and the grass is still tall.

Madhya Pradesh sits in the middle of India. Jabalpur, Bhopal, Indore, Itarsi and Pipariya have direct trains from most big cities, so you lose less of a short holiday on the road. To see how locals mark the festival, read our guide on how Diwali is celebrated across Madhya Pradesh.

Which 2-night Diwali trips work best?

Explore the 2-night plans

Pachmarhi: the cool hill escape

Pachmarhi is the easiest pick for families. Take a train to Pipariya and drive about 50 km up into the Satpura hills. In two nights you can see the main viewpoints, waterfalls and caves at an easy pace.

Look at the full list of Pachmarhi sightseeing spots and our Pachmarhi family trip cost guide before you pick a hotel. Pachmarhi gets busy in Diwali week, so book your stay early. You can also compare all our Pachmarhi tour packages by start city: Pipariya, Bhopal, Itarsi, Jabalpur and Nagpur.

Kanha: the first safaris of the season

Our 2 night Kanha safari package from Jabalpur starts from ₹12,100 per person. You reach the Khatia side in about 3.5 to 4 hours and can fit in safaris on the next day. Kanha is known for its sal forest, open meadows and the hard-ground barasingha.

No one can promise a tiger sighting. Two or three safaris give you a fairer chance. Read our tips on planning a Kanha safari in winter before you book.

Khajuraho: temples and quiet evenings

The 2 night Khajuraho package suits couples and history lovers. It starts from ₹7,650 per person. Khajuraho has its own airport and railway station, so transfers are short. The Khajuraho Group of Monuments is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend one day on the Western Group and the next on the Eastern and Southern temples.

What can you cover in a 3-night Diwali package?

Indore, Ujjain and Omkareshwar

This is the top choice for families who want darshan during the festival. The Indore, Ujjain and Omkareshwar 3 night package starts from ₹11,400 per person. Ujjain is about 55 km from Indore, and Omkareshwar is about 140 km from Ujjain by road.

Mahakaleshwar and Omkareshwar are two of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and both draw big crowds in Diwali week. Expect long queues on the main festival days. Go early in the morning and keep spare time in your plan. Bhasma Aarti at Mahakal needs a separate booking. We tell you how it works when you enquire.

Khajuraho, Orchha and Gwalior

The Khajuraho, Orchha and Gwalior heritage tour gives you one night in each town and starts from ₹11,300 per person. You see the carved temples of Khajuraho, the riverside chhatris and Ram Raja Temple of Orchha, and the hill fort of Gwalior. Gwalior has strong train links with Delhi, which makes this a smart pick for North India travellers.

Kanha for three nights

If wildlife is your main goal, the 3 night Kanha package from Jabalpur gives you more safari slots and a slower pace. It starts from ₹18,800 per person. More drives mean more time in the forest and less rush between them.

Is a 5-night Diwali tiger trail worth it?

Yes, if you have the full festival week. The Jabalpur, Kanha and Bandhavgarh 5 night tour starts from ₹28,700 per person. You get two nights in each park, plus one night in Jabalpur to see Bhedaghat and the Marble Rocks on the Narmada.

Kanha and Bandhavgarh feel very different. Kanha has wide meadows and sal forest. Bandhavgarh is smaller and hilly, with an old fort on the hilltop in the Tala zone. Doing both gives you more variety in five days.

Have six nights? The Jabalpur, Kanha and Pachmarhi combo pairs jungle mornings with cool hill evenings. It starts from ₹20,350 per person.

What should you know about travelling on Diwali day?

Plan your trip around the main festival night. Trains and buses are fullest in the days just before Diwali, as many people head home. If your dates are flexible, travel a day or two earlier, or start after Bhai Dooj when crowds thin out.

Tiger reserves in Madhya Pradesh have traditionally closed safaris on Diwali day, as per the MP Forest Department. Core zones also close for one afternoon safari every week. We fix your safari slots around these closures, so your jungle days are not wasted.

Temples are busiest on Dhanteras, Diwali night and the Govardhan Puja day that follows. For a calmer darshan, go at opening time. Want a quieter break? Read our after-Diwali Pachmarhi trip plan or the Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj 5-day plan.
